"The most improved flat jockey this year" as heard on Attheraces
HOME

JP has ridden horses from a young age and first developed a taste for racing at the age of 16. His racing career began in Lambourn with first thoughts of becoming a jump jockey, spending a couple of years schooling horses and learning his trade.

It was however his first rides on the flat as an amateur that whet his appetite for flat racing and a switch of codes followed suit together with a move to the home of flat racing, Newmarket.

His first big success came whilst still riding as an apprentice when he won the Listed "Dragon Stakes" on Polly Perkins at Sandown Park in 2004, his biggest success to date being the Listed "Spring Cup" win on Hinton Admiral at Lingfield Park on March 24th 2007. This was followed in quick succession a week later by winning the Listed "Easter Stakes" at Kempton Park on 31st March, both winners trained by Mark Johnston.

A turning point in JP's careeer came during the winter season of 2004/2005. He rode 28 winners over the winter months and went on to be crowned Champion Apprentice on the All Weather. Since then he has ridden winners for some of the best trainers including Sir Michael Stoute, Sir Mark Prescott, Clive Brittain and Mark Johnston. His hopes for this season are to continue his association with Mark Johnston and continue riding winners, maybe that first group winner!!
